The International Brotherhood of Truckers (IBT) said local union leaders had approved a preliminary agreement between the Brotherhood International and U.S. light trucking company TForce Freight for a new five-year contract. Next, the deal must be approved by more than 330,000 full- and part-time truck drivers employed by UPS.
UPS CEO Carol Tomé said the agreement is a win-win-win agreement on issues that matter to the Truckers' Union leadership, our employees, United Parcel and our customers. This agreement will continue to provide industry-leading compensation and benefits to UPS's full-time and part-time employees, while retaining the flexibility we need to remain competitive, serve our customers and keep our business strong." ”
Under the proposed contract, full-time pickup and delivery drivers and clerks would receive an increase of $4.50 per hour for the five-year term of the agreement, while road drivers would receive an increase of 7 cents per mile. The agreement abolished two wage levels and split wage increases.
The agreement is good for United Parcels, the parcel industry, the labor movement, and shippers, who need to look for details to understand the impact of the contract on costs and how it will affect UPS's general rate hike in 2024.
